Reflection chairs

I hope you enjoyed reading about my manager monitoring as much as I enjoyed monitoring him. Now I would like to tell you about my task as a chairman in the learning group.

Joran, Guillaume and I had the noble task to be chairmen on the subject of group work. I thought it was very nice to see how people had different opinions about group works. Some people loved to work in groups while others would rather do everything on their own. Personally, I really like to do a lot of work in a group work, because it is difficult for me to delegate tasks to people I do not entirely trust. You have to see trust here more as confidence in a good job of course. Therefore, it really helps me when I am in a group of people who are as motivated as I am, and much preferred also with the same skills, or even better, with complementing skills.

Last semester I had a group work with Pauline, Loammi and Thomas, which was absolutey wonderful. The brainstorming session was very productive and we did not even have to agree on role divisions because they were naturally there, without any disagreements. The end product was also amazingly well-produced and I am proud to say that our group delivered the best presentation in the end. By telling you about this example, I would like to illustrate that in this case I loved to do the group work.

I have found a solution to the problem of difficulties with delegating people in order to avoid me doing all the work. I tend to take the lead of a group work, so that I have control over what is happening. If someone does not do his job, I can tell him or her about it. Another advantage of taking the lead is that you keep an overview of the progress. As I sometimes have a bit of OCD regarding tasks and planning, this is a good solution for me.

The procedure explained in the previous paragraph worked excellently for me in the group of chairmen. I kindly requested a meeting five weeks before the learning group and within two days after that we sat together. We briefly went over the subject, divided tasks and set deadlines. Everyone was finished before the deadline and after a few meetings (real-life and via Skype) we were ready to present. Unfortunately mr. Peeters' car broke down which meant that the presentation was postponed a week. This really was a pity, because we had to be prepared once again. In a way you prepare yourself for such a presentation and when it is cancelled then it is a bit of an anticlimax. Nevertheless, I do think that we did an excellent job. I tried my best to involve the audience in the presentation and most of them were very willing to cooperate.
